Pope Francis wants the Vatican’s Secretariat for the Economy to approve spending in excess of 150,000 euros. This and other measures are contained in documents written by the Supreme Pontiff and published on Tuesday, which detail Vatican News.
The text published by the Holy See aims to improve the management of expenditures in each of the dicasteries, as well as to increase transparency in the public contracting sector.
In the first letter, one of the measures imposes “restrictions” on the management of departments of the Holy See. Expenditures exceeding “2% of Vatican expenditure” must now be approved by the Secretariat of the Economy.
However, “for actions whose cost is less than 150 thousand euros, approval is not required,” the message says.
Another point in the document sets a 30-day period for obtaining such approval, Vatican News explains. Therefore, no response is equivalent to accepting the request.
The second letter calls for more transparency in Vatican reporting “in government contracting procedures.”
