The state of Texas has begun arresting undocumented immigrants for trespassing on state property in Eagle Pass, the same city park that the state recently evicted the U.S. Border Patrol from and took control of, The Post Millenial reported on the 18th. from January.
Chris Olivares, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, wrote on the social network X: “With Texas Governor Greg Abbott declaring a border disaster, cops are arresting illegal immigrants for criminal trespass at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass.”.
Once arrested, Texas law requires that immigrants be returned to their country of origin.
Let us remember that last week the Texas National Guard took control of Shelby Park, where a large flow of migrants passed through to the United States, and installed barbed wire and fences to block the area. The White House had previously given Texas a deadline to allow Border Patrol to return to Shelby Park and take down those barriers, but the state refused.
The next day, the US Department of Homeland Security and the White House falsely claimed that the deaths of illegal immigrants, including two children, were the fault of Texas border policies, arguing that if the Border Patrol had access to the area where If the National Guard was stationed, they could save the illegal immigrants.
However, it was later discovered that the deaths had already occurred when the Border Patrol requested access. Additionally, they occurred on the Mexican side of the river and the United States Border Patrol does not have vessels in this area of the river.
On January 16, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton demanded that the Biden administration correct this record. He also said the state National Guard will continue to guard the state border, which federal forces refuse to guard.
