The Social Communications Regulator (ERC) said this Thursday that the issue of pay at Global Media Group (GMG) has “absolutely nothing to do” with the regulator.
Speaking to Lusa, ERC Regulatory Board President Helena Souza said that “the issue of salary transfers has absolutely nothing to do with ERC” following a statement by GMG Executive President José Paulo Fafe to which the World Opportunity Fund (WOF), which controls the group, reported its failure to transfer money to pay outstanding wages before the ERC decision and the “intended precautionary procedure”.
“The ERC is developing two procedures: one regarding the “transparency regime” and the other regarding the set of investigations,” he indicated, stressing that “it will continue to carry out its work in accordance with the time frames currently established.”
“This is a governance issue that has nothing to do with the procedures that the ERC is developing,” he stressed.
Helena Souza also said that the ERC is “awaiting the fund’s response” as part of its investigation.
“The deadlines are expiring,” he emphasized, pointing out that 10 working days have been allocated for this issue, but without specifying a specific date for the final discussion.
“We will soon have a discussion in the ERC on this issue,” he stressed, noting that “the fund has been notified” and they are waiting for a response in accordance with the deadlines.
“The World Opportunity Fund (WOF) informed me on Thursday of its inability to make any transfer without the Social Communications Regulatory Council (ERC) completing the autonomous administrative process to invoke Section 14 of the Transparency Act. and which could ultimately result in WOF being prohibited from exercising voting rights,” GMG’s Executive President (CEO) said in a statement this Thursday.
In addition, José Paulo Fafe adds, the fund also informed him of its “inability to carry out any transfer until the alleged preventive arrest procedure publicly announced by the businessman Marco Galinha is lifted.”
According to two statements published this Thursday, the plenary meetings of the workers of Jornal de Notícias and the sports program O Jogo, GMG titles, decided to activate the suspension of labor contracts due to non-payment of wages.
