The National Republican Guard (NRG) arrested three people for domestic violence between January 12 and 18, during which period they made 326 arrests at the scene of the crime, according to the weekly operational report published this Saturday.
Three arrests occurred in a week in which a 40-year-old woman was killed in Figueira da Foz in the context of domestic violence. This is the crime most frequently reported to Portuguese authorities in the first nine months of 2023 (more than 8,400 reports) and resulting in the deaths of at least 18 people (14 women) during the period.
According to the GNR, the majority of arrests were related to the fight against road traffic accidents, with 138 people arrested for drink driving and a further 74 for driving without a licence. The GNR also identified 6,675 violations, including 1,668 for speeding and 719 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection.
Also, 40 people were arrested for theft and robbery, 16 for drug trafficking and nine for illegal possession of weapons or prohibited weapons.
