Six Chinese balloons flying over Taiwan detected military islands, Taiwan News reported on January 22.
Five Chinese balloons flew to the north of the island at a distance of 105 to 170 kilometers from Taiwan through the air defense identification zone. One flew over the southern part of the island.
The balloons flew at an altitude of between 6,000 and 9,000 meters. One of them descended to 4.5 thousand meters.
In addition to the balloons, the Taiwanese military detected four fighter planes and four warships approaching the island.
Recall that in September 2020, flights by Chinese military aircraft through the air defense identification zone were intensified. The air defense identification zone extends beyond Taiwan’s airspace. In this area, the island’s air traffic controllers ask planes to identify themselves. Flights through the area do not constitute a violation of international law.
Over the past few months, Chinese fighter jets have appeared near the island every day.
