Mozambican police have arrested a man and his friend suspected of trying to sell two grandchildren to a trafficker for 5,000 euros for organ harvesting, police in the city of Dondo said.
“We are in a blatant situation of human trafficking in which the individuals represented here would attempt to sell two people for amounts estimated at 350,000 metisai. [5 mil euros]”, said Dersio Chakate, spokesman for the Provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) Sofala.
According to PRM, the men offered to sell the two children to a trafficker after taking them from their parents’ home in the Marromeu area last Saturday.
Dersio Chakate, who spoke to reporters in Dondo, explained that the police became aware of the incident through a public complaint and are using the support of the National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernik) to try to contact the “moral author” of the crime.
In this case, the dealer himself called the police and reported his grandfather and friend, who were subsequently arrested.
PRM ensures that minors are already returned to their families.
