According to a study presented this Monday, women make up only 13% of the leaders of the largest multilateral organizations elected since 1945, and most of these organizations have never had a female leader, including the largest of them all, the United Nations.
The study was conducted by Global Women Leaders Voices (GWL Voices), a gender equality non-governmental organization (NGO) founded by 70 women from 41 countries who hold or have held international leadership positions, and was presented in Madrid by former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The Women in Multilateralism 2024 report is based on an analysis of the leadership, government and management teams of the 54 largest multilateral organizations (such as the United Nations and its agencies, the World Bank or the International Monetary Fund) since 1945. , after the end of World War II, which coincided with the creation of most of these entities.
