The French government’s lack of response to farmers’ demands forced them to take more serious measures, TF1 Info reports on January 25.
Recent reports on French farmers’ protest actions in local media began to be accompanied by images showing a change in the way they influence the government. Farmers have opted for other tactics, not just blocking roads. All of this was done for the sole purpose of finally being heard.
This is how the A7 highway, blocked by farmers, began to be covered with boxes of vegetables and fruits. Several tons of agricultural products were dumped on a road south of the city of Montelimar (Drôme department), located in southeastern France. Protesters began stopping and unloading foreign trucks to protest the import of agricultural products. Similar boxes, taken from foreign heavy trucks, were simply burned on the A9 highway. Thus, the farmers demonstrated once again that they are determined to achieve their goal.
In the municipality of Agen (Lot-et-Garonne department), the Leclerc hypermarket was sprayed with manure. This reflected, they said, dissatisfaction with the group’s working methods. And, first of all, the unfair margins on products purchased from French manufacturers.
“I think they really think we’re idiots, but that has to change right now.”said one of the farmers.
In other places they went even further. They blocked access to the System U purchasing center. Now no truck can enter or leave the warehouse. Many illegal actions began to be taken in response to the ignorance of the demands of agricultural producers, which forced, in his opinion, stricter measures to be taken.
In northwestern France, in the Morbihan department, a fuel warehouse near Lorient was blocked. Thus, the protesters opposed the increase in diesel fuel prices. This showed solidarity with the farmers of the Construction Union (BTP). According to them, it is the same fight for their rights, because they have a common problem. Therefore, as the union highlighted, by supporting farmers, they were also protecting themselves.
