The Supreme Administrative Court (STA) rejected an appeal by six great-grandsons of the writer Esa de Queiroz who challenged his transfer to the National Pantheon, allowing the implementation of a tribute supported by the majority of his descendants.
In a ruling of January 25, the decision of which was initially reported this Friday by the newspaper Público, a group of STA judges decided to “dismiss the appeal and therefore uphold the appealed decision”, that is, refusing to give reasons to the six great-grandchildren who challenge the will of the majority , advocate the transfer of the remains of Es de Queiroz to the National Pantheon, as a tribute to the memory of the writer, approved by the Assembly of the Republic.
In the ruling, which Luza had access to, a group of STA advisers disputed the arguments of the authors of the petition, rejecting, for example, the contention that it could be considered an alleged will previously expressed by the writer’s grandchildren in 1989, which contradicts the transfer.
