Yemen’s Houthi rebels said this Friday that they attacked a British oil tanker that “caught fire” in the Gulf of Aden.
In their statement, the Houthis said they fired “missiles” at the “British oil tanker Marlin Luanda,” adding that the ship was “completely hit and caught fire.”
Private maritime risk management company Ambrey previously reported that a merchant ship was damaged in the same area off the coast of Yemen with a fire on board, but it is currently unknown whether this was the same incident.
In accordance with BBC, “The incident occurred 60 nautical miles southeast of Aden,” and military resources were deployed to assist and fight the fire. Houthi military spokesman Yaha Sarea said the group used a “series of related naval missiles” and that the attack was “direct.”
