A tricycle driver was killed and his vehicle stolen in the central Mozambique town of Chimoyo, joining several similar cases in the area, an industry association said on Saturday.
“The situation was already calm, but it is getting worse because last week another colleague was killed and his motorcycle stolen,” Neto Ciganda, president of the Association of Motorcycle Taxi Drivers of Manica province, whose capital is Chimoio, told Mozambique’s public television station. (TVM).
Neto Ciganda said the tricycle transport business has become risky due to murders and robberies affecting riders in Chimoio.
According to him, the perpetrators of such attacks pretend to be passengers to commit their crimes.
