Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, countries ruled by militias not recognized internationally, have decided to immediately withdraw their countries from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In a joint statement, the governments of the three countries justified the withdrawal of this subregional organization after the imposition of sanctions and condemnation of coups.
The respective leaders of the three Sahel States, “having fully accepted their responsibility to history and responding to the expectations, concerns and aspirations of their populations, have decided, in full sovereignty, to withdraw Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger from the Economic Community of West African States without delay”, – says the statement, which was read out in the state media of these countries.
