Two people were injured and three missing after an explosion sparked a massive fire in a residential complex in Rotterdam, the ANP news agency reported on January 30.
According to emergency services, a victim was found injured in the street and taken to hospital. The fire was extinguished overnight and firefighters began checking the structural integrity of the building before forensic experts began investigating the explosion that caused the fire.
“This was not just an explosion like those that have occurred recently. It was much bigger. The car parked on the street in front of the door was completely overturned. “44 apartments are so damaged that residents still cannot return.”said a security representative.
Three people are still missing. The authorities have not been able to contact them. “despite numerous attempts”the security office said, noting that they may be under the rubble.
It should be noted that the building in question consists of a commercial area and two residential floors above. On the other side of the street, about 15 meters away, there is a four-story building with terraces. This building also suffered significant damage from the blast wave.
Dutch police said they would begin an investigation into the cause of the explosion as soon as it was safe to do so.
