The French President this Wednesday ensured that the European Commission had “responded to French requests” regarding fallow commitments and restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products, two sources of tension with farmers.
Brussels has proposed granting a partial exemption from fallow obligations in the European Union and limiting any uncontrolled increase in agricultural imports from Ukraine, thereby offering guarantees to protesting farmers across Europe.
“Two important issues on which Europe is at the right level have been quickly resolved in response to our requests,” European President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron said at the Elysee Palace ahead of the meeting.
