A 42-year-old man was arrested by the Lisbon Judicial Police (PJ) on Tuesday for kidnapping, assault and attempted murder of a man with whom he had a friendly relationship.
According to the SP statement, the suspect abducted the victim, keeping her gagged and tied for six hours while assaulting her.
The victim suffered a deep injury to his arm while trying to defend himself from a knife attack.
The suspect then took some items, set the house on fire and fled in the victim’s car.
The man has been charged with crimes such as kidnapping, attempted murder, robbery, arson, fraud, causing qualified damage and possession of a bladed weapon. It appears to have been motivated by romantic reasons.
“While the accused fled, the victim managed to free himself and alert the GNR of Lorignan, who in turn called the judicial police to the scene,” the SP said in a statement.
Less than 24 hours later, authorities were able to identify the suspect and arrest him.
The man is in jail.
