The deadly explosion that claimed three lives and destroyed a residential complex in Rotterdam on January 29 may have been caused by a drug laboratory, local police said, NOS reported on February 3.
According to law enforcement, various utensils that could be used in the production of drugs were found under the rubble.
Police arrested a 34-year-old Rotterdam resident suspected of drug production. Sources say we are talking about the tenant of the building. He was also the uncle of one of the three victims.
It should be noted that earlier this week journalists saw canisters of acetone and hydrochloric acid being removed from the rubble. These substances can be used in the production of medicines.
Until the morning of February 2, emergency services were busy creating “safe situation” to recover the bodies of the three victims, police said. An investigation was then launched into the causes of the explosion and fire.
The explosion, which caused extensive damage, was reported to have occurred in a garage beneath the apartment complex, sparking a large fire. Dozens of windows in the area were broken, seven apartments above the destroyed garage were declared uninhabitable and dozens were damaged.
