Strangers invaded the Manica provincial prosecutor’s office in central Mozambique, allegedly to try to solve cases, an official source told Luse this Thursday.
The team arrived at the site over the weekend of January 20 and 21 due to the lack of staff working at the facility, said Luse Remigui Giamba, chief prosecutor of Chimoyo, the provincial capital.
Unknown persons entered through the window, breaking the glass and searching files on the desk of Chief Prosecutor Chimoio, the source said.
According to him, in addition to vandalizing the chief prosecutor’s desk, the group took possession of a laptop, a mobile phone and a “flash drive.”
“They searched the secretary. I guess they were looking for some business,” Remiji Giamba said, adding that security at the site had been beefed up by the Mozambique Republic Police.
On Monday, the Manika press reported another case in which unknown assailants robbed the provincial anti-corruption office and stole files and a computer.
Since last year, Mozambican authorities have recorded at least three cases of unknown groups breaking into the property or offices of judges.
In May 2023, an unknown group burgled at least four houses in the magistrates’ condominium in Chimoyo, also taking computers, mobile phones and money.
