Against a backdrop of falling demand, Russian automakers are reducing car production volumes relative to autumn levels, as reported on February 7 in the Bank of Russia’s report on the regional economy.
The Volga-Vyatka department of the Central Bank, whose branches operate in the Samara, Ulyanovsk and Nizhny Novgorod regions, reported a decrease in automobile production volumes.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, automakers’ capacity utilization decreased for the first time in the last year and a half.
“In December, the decrease in demand became one of the factors of the (seasonally adjusted) reduction in the volume of vehicle sales of Volgovyat manufacturers in both the passenger and commercial segments. In the passenger segment, an additional factor was the aggravation of the problem with the shortage of various components in a large automobile consortium.”says the Central Bank report.
The company decided to change its mode of operation: in mid-December 2023, the second shift was restored on one of the production lines; In January, Saturday assembly was suspended on another line, reducing production volumes.
Recall that manufacturers refused to increase car prices in January due to a large stock of unsold cars; About a third of Chinese cars imported to Russia remained unsold in warehouses.
