The Constitutional Council’s decision on candidates admitted to the October election race must be made between June 11 and June 25.
According to previous information, the two largest Mozambican parties, the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo, in power) and the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo), plan to choose their presidential candidates between March and April.
Current head of state Filipe Nyusi, who is also Frelimo’s president, is constitutionally unable to run in the next round of voting because he has reached his two-term limit.
Mozambique will hold general elections on October 9, which include, in addition to the presidential elections, legislative elections and elections for provincial governors.
The number of seats for each constituency in the legislative elections will be published between 12 and 18 April in accordance with the CNE calendar, and political parties, coalitions of political parties and citizen-voter groups proposing candidates for the Assembly will also be registered.
