The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale early Thursday morning with an epicenter near Cape Verde’s Santo Antao and San Vicente islands, with no known material impact or casualties.
According to the USGS, which Lusa consulted this Thursday, the quake’s epicenter was recorded at a depth of 10,000 meters, 75 kilometers from Porto Novo, on the island of Santo Antao, and 75.2 kilometers from Mindelo, San Vicente, takes place at 03:16 local time (another hour in Lisbon).
The quake was felt on several Cape Verdean islands, in addition to Santo Antao and Sao Vicente, according to reports from several people in the Cape Verdean media early in the morning.
There are still reports of small rockfalls occurring, but so far no property damage or confirmed casualties.
