At least nine Palestinians have been killed and 16 injured in an Israeli operation in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, according to a new Palestinian Authority balance sheet.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health had previously indicated that four people had died and 12 others were injured. A 60-year-old woman is among the dead, according to Palestinian officials.
Palestinian health authorities said at least 16 people were injured in this Israeli operation.
“The situation in the Jenin refugee camp is critical,” Health Minister May al-Qayla said, adding that Israeli forces fired tear gas at the children’s ward.
In turn, the Israeli army reported on the Telegram social network that the security forces were carrying out an operation in the Jenin refugee camp.
“Details will be provided later,” the army said.
The Israeli army, which has occupied the West Bank since 1967, makes almost daily raids on this Palestinian territory, mainly in the north, in the areas of Jenin and Nablus, strongholds of Palestinian armed groups.
Since last year, the worst year since 2006, when 170 Palestinians were killed, Jenin has been a major source of violence in the occupied West Bank and is home to a large militia movement linked to groups including Hamas and Islamic Jihad. .
