Employment rose 1.4% in the eurozone and 1.3% in the European Union (EU) as a whole in 2023, after growing by more than 1% in the final quarter of the year, Eurostat said on Wednesday.
According to the first estimate of annual growth for 2023, based on quarterly data and published this Wednesday by Eurostat, employment increased by 1.4% in the single currency area and by 1.3% in the EU.
“These data provide a snapshot of the labor force that is consistent with national accounts output and income,” the community statistics office said.
Compared to the same quarter the previous year, in the last three months of 2023 employment grew by 1.3% in the euro area and 1.2% in the EU, the same values as in the previous quarter.
In terms of chain variation, employment grew by 0.3% in both the eurozone and the EU in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter, while in the previous three months employment increased by 0.2% in both areas.
