The head of the UN Agency on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) office in Mozambique this Wednesday expressed concern about the “increase in drug seizures” and the “links” between drug trafficking and the financing of terrorist groups.
“The increase in drug seizures in Mozambican territory, especially heroin, cocaine and other synthetic drugs, demonstrates the increasingly central position of the country in international drug trafficking routes,” warned António De Vivo at the opening of a seminar on the National Drug Strategy in Maputo. “We view with particular concern the relationship between drug trafficking and the financing of terrorist activities in the north of the country, as recognized by the distinguished prosecutor general of the republic,” he also said in the same speech.
