The Inhambane Judicial Court in southern Mozambique sentenced two men to 27 and 28 years in prison for murder, harvesting and trafficking in human organs in a case registered in the province’s Vilanculo district.
Two men have been charged with kidnapping, murder, organ harvesting and organ trafficking of three people from Mapinhane Administrative Post in Vilanculos District in Inhambane. This case became public in January 2023.
One of the men was sentenced to 28 years in prison and must also pay compensation of 950,000 metikay (€14,000) to the families of the victims. The other was sentenced to 27 years in prison with compensation of 450,000 metikays (seven thousand euros).
According to Judge David Foloko, “it was proven that the victims were killed for the purpose of harvesting organs for subsequent trafficking.”
Relatives of the victims said they were satisfied with the verdict, considering it a victory for the town of Mapinhane, and the lawyer said he would appeal.
