The fourth member of the Democratic Alliance (AD) of Aveiro, Salvador Malheiro, this Saturday denied receiving envelopes containing money in exchange for a reward for his work and announced that he would file a criminal complaint on Monday.
In an interview with Diário de Notícias, former PSD activist and current leader of the Chega de Ovar, Mário Monteiro, said that he introduced the contractor José Barros de Souza to the President of the Chamber of Ovar, Salvador Maleiro, whose mandate is suspended for being on the AD lists for the legislative elections on March 10, and delivered Maleiro money in exchange for a reward for work.
“I completely refute all the accusations made by this gentleman [Mário Monteiro] and naturally I have to defend myself, and next Monday a criminal case will be opened against this man, because I have to defend my honor,” he said, speaking at the entrance to the presentation of the AD candidates in Aveiro, in Espinho.
Mario Monteiro, the current leader of Chegi/Ovara, admits in an interview with DN that he was an intermediary between the contractor and the mayor of Ovara, showing that he is willing to tell his story to the government ministry.
According to him, in order to win the job, the contractor had to give SDP 120 thousand euros.
“This is pure fantasy, an illusion, and I categorically refute it, and this will become the main object of my criminal case,” repeated Salvador Malheiro, speaking to reporters.
Malheiro admits, however, that he met with Mario Monteiro, whom he knows as a PSD activist, “several times,” as well as with “the contractor’s representative on routine institutional matters in the city council.”
“What I categorically refute is what is said in this interview (JO) about remittances, and therefore this gentleman will have to prove that it is true,” he warned.
According to the mayor, the “timing” of these news is aimed at “causing harm” to him and AD, although he believes that “people are already accustomed” to the appearance of these cases “during the hot period of the election process.” .
Demonstrating himself to be “strong and determined,” the Social Democrat said he was unaware that any investigation was underway.
“I have a completely clear conscience, the processes in the House are completely crystal clear and I am very proud of my behavior throughout this time,” he concluded.
Faced with the same accusations from DN, contractor José Barros de Souza, whom Mario Monteiro called an active corrupter of Salvador Malheiro, declined to comment.
