Check Point specialists recorded an increase in the number of letters with fake voice messages forcing the user to enter their account information, Izvestia reports on February 17.
According to the computer security company, in the last two weeks more than a thousand cases have been identified of users who received emails containing an alleged voice message with a built-in MP3 player. These attacks are called “phishing” (from the English fishing – to fish, to fish – approx. IA Krasnaya Vesna).
In fact, the player turns out to be a malicious link that leads to a fake login page for the email service the letter came from. The user is prompted to enter their account information to listen to the voice message sent to them.
Experts warn that this cyberattack scheme has proven to be effective, although it requires the active participation of users.
