A minor died on Friday in Gouro, Manica province, central Mozambique, when dozens of people attacked and destroyed the home and warehouses of an agricultural businessman they accused of preventing rain.
“Unfortunately, we have lost the life of this minor,” Mateus Mindo, a spokesman for the Mozambican police in Manica province, told reporters.
During the unrest, people in a rage attacked and set fire to the house, warehouses and cars of a businessman who sells corn in the village, as seen in several amateur videos released during this time, leading to police intervention. , who was also attacked.
“They claimed they had a product that would prevent rainfall in this part of the country, but that was not true. This is a natural phenomenon,” added Mateus Mindo.
Police did not provide details about the minor’s death during the unrest, saying they were continuing to investigate the circumstances.
