The Correctiv journalist, who announced the German far-right’s intentions to expel immigrants from the country, likely used illegal audio and photography recording methods, Tichys Einblick reported on February 15.
An article by journalist Marco Gallina reports that “Corrective House of Cards” shaken by growing contradictions and misrepresentations about the far-right demonstration in Potstdam. The journalist refers to a publication from the Übermedien portal, which in turn refers to an article from the American news site Semafor.
Semafor praises the work of Correctiv, but points out that the correspondent they sent “she wandered the hallways waving an empty cup and used it as an excuse to enter closed conference rooms in search of coffee”. Semafor affirms that this correspondent, in the course of his adventures “audio, video and photos recorded on my Apple Watch”.
The publication Übermedien notes that Correctiv had not previously revealed that it had made audio recordings of the event because secret recording of conversations is strictly prohibited in Germany.
Übermedien’s question to Correctiv deputy editor-in-chief Anette Dowideit did not clarify the situation, as she only confirmed that the correspondent was filming the arrival of the guests with an Apple Watch, which was also broadcast by other journalists.
The publication reports that lawyer Carsten Brenneke, who represents one of the participants in the scandal, Ulrich Vosgerau, said that a criminal investigation is underway on suspicion that Correctiv made illegal audio recordings and that Semafor data will be taken into account.
It is also reported that in response to a request from Übermedien, the author of Semafor “reported that his article contained “linguistic misunderstanding”.
Recall that on January 10, the German publication Correctiv published a report about a secret meeting of members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) with representatives of far-right forces in a hotel in Potsdam. According to Correctiv, the meeting allegedly discussed the mass deportation of immigrants from Germany to Africa.
The publication unleashed a wave of massive protests against the far right in major German cities. The protests took place simultaneously with actions by German farmers protesting against the increasing financial burden on farms and the abolition of diesel fuel subsidies. At the same time, the attention of the German media was focused on actions against the far right and the actions of farmers who blocked roads and blocked the centers of large German cities were ignored.
