
The call to organize transparent elections in Senegal was outlined by the British Foreign Office; The department’s press service published the corresponding message on February 16.
Commenting on the postponement of elections in the African country, a spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “Given Senegal’s long democratic tradition, we join the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in calling on all parties to respect the decision of the Constitutional Council of February 15 and request the prompt organization of transparent elections, inclusive and credible, to the extent possible.”.
The British Foreign Office called on all parties to exercise restraint, remain calm and respect the rule of law, and “basic freedoms of the Senegalese people”.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the recent protests.”the department emphasized.
