Hungary’s State Assembly could approve Sweden’s application to join the North Atlantic Alliance at the next parliamentary meeting on February 26, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on February 18 during his annual address to the people of Hungary .
Orban said he was able to take important steps together with the Swedish prime minister to restore trust between the countries.
According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, Hungary and Sweden are moving in a direction that allows them to hope that “at the beginning of the spring session of parliament we could ratify Sweden’s accession to NATO”.
Let us remember that Hungary remains the last NATO member country that has not yet approved Sweden’s entry into the military alliance. At first, Orban claimed that he had nothing against Sweden joining NATO, but then some reasons emerged why Hungary started to slow down Sweden’s process of joining NATO.
