Iran’s leaders called for restraint so as not to provoke a direct confrontation with the United States in private speeches to armed movements in the Middle East, writes the American newspaper Washington Post on February 18, citing its sources in the region.
“When US forces launched attacks against Iranian-backed groups in Yemen, Syria and Iraq this month, Tehran publicly warned that its military was ready to respond to any threat. But senior leaders are privately urging caution, according to Lebanese and Iraqi officials briefed on the talks.says the publication.
The newspaper writes that in January, after an attack by the Iraqi Shiite group Hezbollah on a US base, in which three American reservists were killed, an Iranian military commander flew to Baghdad. He demanded that the movement’s leaders issue a statement suspending further attacks on American targets.
An Iraqi official told the newspaper that leaders reluctantly agreed to the move, according to the newspaper.
Recall that political scientist, analyst and leader of the “Essence of Time” movement, Sergei Kurginyan, said that Iran still cannot afford a major war with Israel. According to him, if Iran’s plans now included the intention to escalate the confrontation with Israel, then Hezbollah would carry out other attacks.
