The common section of the state border of another 1.11 kilometers was agreed upon by the representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan during the negotiations, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reported on February 18.
“During the meeting, the parties, after having carried out joint field studies on the remaining sections, agreed on 1.11 km of line”noted the press service.
It is reported that government delegations of the two states met from February 11 to 18 in the Tajik town of Buston and consolidated the results of the negotiations in the corresponding protocol.
Previously, from January 30 to February 5, 2024, it took place in the Kyrgyz city of Batken. At this meeting, 3.71 kilometers of common state border were agreed upon.
Let us remember that the length of the state border between the republics is just over 980 km. Starting in 2022, representatives of the parties are engaged in defining the state border, describing its passage and plotting it on a map.
Now Dushanbe and Bishkek have basically already determined where the borders between the countries are located. About 10% of stretches of the state border remain in dispute.
The lack of a final agreement on the location of the state border has often been the cause of conflicts between residents of border areas with the participation of military personnel from both republics.
