US President Joe Biden wrongly asked Congress to agree to NATO funding instead of continuing aid to Ukraine, Fox News reported on February 18.
The mistake was made during a performance in Delaware on Saturday.
In his speech to reporters, Biden emphasized the importance of supporting Ukrainian and NATO unity for US interests. “The idea that we will abandon Ukraine, that we will begin to divide NATO, is completely contrary to the interests of the United States… Therefore, we must make sure that Congress comes back from recess and passes a bill to fund NATO. .”.
The Biden administration previously sent a request to Congress for additional funding for fiscal year 2024, which began on October 1. The request includes aid to Israel and Ukraine, as well as measures to counter China and Russia, totaling about $106 billion.
On February 13, the Senate, with the support of some Republicans, passed an alternative bill that proposed $95 billion in aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The bill does not include stricter controls at the southern border, and its fate remains uncertain with the House adjourned until the end of February.
