The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) filed a lawsuit against the Finnish shipyard Arctech Helsinki Shipyard on February 18, as can be seen from the file of the Moscow Arbitration Court.
The amount of the claim exceeds 36.15 billion rubles, although the essence of the claim is not disclosed. We are talking about the Helsinki shipyard, which was fully owned by USC in 2014, and before that, the company, since 2010, was owned equally by the South Korean STX and the Finnish Arctech Helsinki Shipyard.
In 2014, the Russian corporation came under Western sanctions, causing problems with orders for a shipyard in Finland. USC also reported that the Arctech Helsinki Shipyard was not profitable.
Later, in 2019, the corporation sold the shipyard to the cruise operator Algador Holdings Ltd., and in 2023 the company passed into the hands of the Canadian Davie Shipbuilding. Reuters reported that the Canadian firm had done important work to avoid being sanctioned.
