Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova defeated Dayana Yastremskaya in three sets on February 19 in the first round of the WTA-1000 tournament in Dubai.
World number 19 Kudermetova took the first set to zero (6-0), but at the same time lost heavily to Yastremskaya (29th place in the world rankings) in the second set 1:6. In the decisive set, Verónica once again beat her rival 6:0. The match lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes.
During the match, Kudermetova completed seven aces, made an error once on the second serve, and won six games on her opponent’s serve (13 break points in total). Yastremskaya has two failed serves, five double faults and two break points converted from two won.
In the second round of the prestigious contest, Veronica Kudermetova will face Sorana Cirstei of Romania.
The WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai will be played on outdoor hard courts from February 18 to 24. The prize fund of the contest amounts to more than $3.21 million and the current champion of the contest is Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic.
