The trial of fourteen suspects of plotting a terrorist attack during the 2019 Hong Kong protests began with a speech by prosecutor Edward Lau on February 19, Malay Mail reports.
He charged 14 defendants with plotting to plant two bombs along the demonstration route on December 10, 2019 to kill police officers.
According to the prosecution, these fourteen suspects are involved in the Dragon Slayers group.
“The group planned to take police weapons for their own use after the police officers were killed.”Lau said.
Since protests were crushed in 2020, Hong Kong authorities have used a variety of laws, including reviving colonial-era sedition charges, against activists, pro-democracy politicians and even ordinary people.
The accused members of the group have been charged under the anti-terrorism law, which is being used for the first time since its enactment in 2002.
