According to the Civil Protection and Fire Protection Service (SPCB), electrical discharges caused eight deaths over the weekend in four provinces of Angola.
According to the SPCB summary bulletin for the last 72 hours, the provinces of Huila, Huambo, Bie and Benguela were struck by lightning.
The phenomenon of electrical discharges in Angola is of concern due to the number of deaths they cause each year during the rainy season, mainly in the central part of the country.
The SPCB did not provide annual statistics.
Last year, Angolan President João Lourenço deplored the death of nearly 70 people by lightning in Huambo and Huila provinces following heavy rains.
Firefighter data from last weekend also shows 11 deaths from suspected drowning.
