The Parliament of Madeira will potentially discuss, at the request of the PS and in the presence of the regional government, the actions of the executive “within the framework of a practice that could justify publicly condemned criminal offenses”, said the President of the Legislative Assembly.
“It was decided to contact the Government [Regional] in the sense that debate will be held subject to availability, although [o executivo] is in control,” said the centrist president of the island’s parliament, José Manuel Rodrigues, after a conference of representatives of the Madeira Legislative Assembly.
The debate on “the actions of the regional government in practices that may justify criminal offenses reported in the media” was proposed by the PS bench, the largest opposition party (it holds 11 of the hemisphere’s 47 seats). ).
José Manuel Rodrigues was asked about the decision announced on Saturday by the representative of the Republic, Ireneu Barreto, to maintain control of the government of Madeira (PSD/CDS-PP) until the head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, decides whether to dissolve the Legislative Assembly, which can only happen after March 24, six months after the last regional legislative elections.
If Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa decides not to dissolve the regional parliament, the representative of the republic will appoint “the president and other members of the new regional government.”
“I naturally respect the decision of the representative of the Republic and refuse to comment on his decision,” said José Manuel Rodriguez, recalling that as chairman of the Legislative Assembly he is obliged to “maintain the normal functioning of the parliament.” , which is “the only government agency in the region that fully performs its functions.”
The political crisis in the autonomous region resulted from the dismissal of Madeira’s head of government, Social Democrat Miguel Albuquerque, after he was charged as part of an investigation into suspected corruption in the archipelago, which led to the fall of Madeira. its executive director from the SDP/SDS-PP coalition with the parliamentary support of the PAN.
This morning’s conference of representatives of parties holding seats in parliament also approved the proposal of the Chegi parliamentary group not to hold debates during the election campaign for the elections to the Assembly of the Republic, which will be held on March 10.
The proposal was voted for by the SDP, SDS-PP, Chega and PAN, with the MP from BE abstaining and against the PS, IL and JPP.
The meeting also presented two requests for consideration of two proposed bills to the Assembly of the Republic.
One of the diplomas was written by the PKP and aimed at “Equalization of deputies of the Assembly of the Republic and deputies of legislative assemblies of autonomous regions in terms of incompatibility and obstacles.”
Another thesis authored by BE is “Commitment to Transparency and Parity in the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira”.
The Conference unanimously decided to seek the opinion of the Rules and Mandates Committee, considering that since these issues were to be included in the Political-Administrative Statute, “there must be a different normative procedure than a simple discussion in plenary session.” .
