Armenia’s status as a non-bloc to expel Russian forces from the region may be prescribed when the republic’s constitution is changed, said Armenian political scientist Beniamin Matevosyan, the agency “Armenia News – NEWS.am” reported on February 19. . .
“Taking into account the signals coming from pro-government and close-to-government circles, we understand one simple thing: the draft constitutional amendments may contain a provision according to which Armenia is now a neutral country, we are a non-aligned state and there cannot be have foreign military personnel on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. “This is directed, first of all, against Russia.”stated the Armenian political scientist.
According to him, the constitutional amendment projects being discussed in Armenia’s ruling circles are much more dangerous than the issue of enclaves or the corridor to Nakhichevan. “We all understand that the ultimate goal of all these actions, including the surrender of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh – approx. IA Krasnaya Vesna), is the expulsion of Russia from the region”he added.
For Armenians this will become a physical threat to their existence, Matevosyan is convinced. “This is a much more important issue for Azerbaijan and Turkey, because they want to have all of Armenia and not a separate corridor.””, emphasized the Armenian political scientist.
