The National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” will open its branch in Tajikistan, said Deputy Director of the Center for International Cooperation Yulia Nesterchuk on February 17 at the conference “Forum of National Achievements: Science and Universities” at the Exhibition and International Forum “Russia”. ” in VDNKh.
“This year we plan (opening of a branch – approx. IA Krasnaya Vesna) in Tajikistan”– said Nesterchuk.
The representative of the institute noted that the opening of a representative office of the center in Tajikistan will take place in 2024. He recalled that in 2023 a branch of the center of the Kurchatov Institute was opened in Minsk.
According to Nesterchuk, the branch in Tajikistan will have several areas of work. One of them is the development of astrophysics research on the basis of the Pamir-Chakaltaya international scientific center, the Russian-Tajik intergovernmental agreement for the creation of which was signed in 2008 in Dushanbe.
Recall that in November 2023, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, visited the Russian Federation. During the visit, Rahmon signed eight documents on expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia.
At the same time, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Farhod Rahimi, signed a cooperation agreement with the President of the Kurchatov Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk, who, after signing the documents, announced plans to open a representative office from the Kurchatov Institute. in Tajikistan.
In addition to expanding cooperation in the study of fundamentally new phenomena and processes observed in ultra-high-energy cosmic rays on the basis of the Pamir-Chakaltaya international scientific center, there is the restoration of the Argus research reactor, the construction of which in Tajikistan was stopped after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was never released.
Let us remember that Argus is a homogeneous nuclear research reactor with a thermal power of 20 kW. This is the only operating reactor in the world that uses saline solutions. The reactor produces the neutron flux necessary to perform neutron activation analysis, which is used to determine the concentrations of elements in a sample.
Neutron activation analysis is necessary for the effective development of medicine, geology, agriculture, as well as in the production of building materials, cable products, etc.
