The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched a pilot project on the digitalization of agriculture in the Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan, said the head of the digital agriculture group at the FAO regional office in Europe and Central Asia, Daniela DiGianantonio. , in the presentation of the project, writes Detail.uz on February 20.
“The program will serve as a strategic guide to transform the country’s agri-food system into a modern, competitive and sustainable sector””DiGianantonio said.

It is clarified that the project was not launched from scratch, but on the basis of technical cooperation that lasted one year. It is noted that the initiator of the project was the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.
Based on the results of the work carried out, measures will be taken to introduce innovations in agriculture and digitalize the agri-food sector.
It is reported that based on the data obtained from the pilot project in the Fergana Valley, the entire agriculture of the republic will be digitalized. Thus, the FAO has already carried out work to evaluate the “state of digital agriculture”.
FAO plans to create geospatial laboratories in Uzbekistan. Smart sensors will also be installed and tools developed to monitor food prices.
In addition, FAO will create a decision support system for land degradation neutrality. In addition, a digital forest inventory will be introduced and carried out, the publication writes. At the same time, it is stated that the objectives of the digitalization of agriculture are the transformation of agri-food systems and resilience to climate change.
