The first stage of the Russian Swimming Cup began on February 20 in Kaliningrad at the AVTOTOR-Arena Sports Palace, the press service of the government of the Kaliningrad region reports on the official Internet portal.
The official start of the competition was given by the Minister of Sports of the Kaliningrad region, five-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Natalya Ishchenko and the head of the Russian Swimming Federation, four-time Olympic champion in freestyle swimming Vladimir Salnikov.
For the first time, the Russian Swimming Cup phase is held in Kaliningrad. 340 delegates from 32 Russian regions take part in the two-day program. Athletes will compete for 32 sets of prizes.
Among the participants of the stage are the strongest athletes in Russia, including Kliment Kolesnikov, Evgenia Chikunova and Kirill Prigoda. The guest of honor was four-time Summer Olympic medalist and Honored Master of Sports of the USSR in swimming Viktor Mazanov.
