Princess Ira von Furstenberg, daughter of the Austro-Hungarian Prince Tassilo of Furstenberg and Lara Agnelli, a member of the Fiat clan, died this Monday in Rome, Italy, at the age of 83, ANSA reports.
Ira von Furstenberg was born in the Italian capital on April 17, 1940. She worked as a model, actress and jewelry designer.
He spent his childhood in Switzerland and then moved to boarding school in England. At the age of 14, she was already a model for designer Emilio Pucci, shortly before meeting Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, whom she married at the age of 15. The wedding, celebrated in Venice, was one of the most notable social events of the time.
Ira von Furstenberg’s second marriage was to businessman Francisco Matarazzo Pignatari, known as “Baby”. The ceremony took place in 1961.
Ira von Furstenberg’s first husband sued her for adultery because of her relationship with Francisco Matarazzo Pignatari. It was only a few years later that he decided to withdraw the complaint in exchange for custody of his children.
An icon of the 60s and 70s, Ira von Furstenberg was sought after by many directors and starred in approximately thirty films.
