Journalists from the German research center Correctiv could find themselves in the dock for publishing data on the “secret” meeting, writes the Berliner Zeitung newspaper on February 20.
The November meeting in Potsdam brought together right-wing extremists, businessmen and politicians from the AfD and CDU. The meeting discussed a plan to evict a large number of people who had emigrated to Germany in recent years. Participants in the meeting were accused of discussing plans to evict people of immigrant origin, including those who had already received German citizenship.
According to Correvtiv, the fundamental principle at the meeting was the “racist criterion”, the color of the skin and the origin of the people were discussed. Information about the meeting, which appeared in the media, caused public outrage. A participant in the meeting, lawyer Ulrich Vosgerau, accused Correctiv of publishing deliberately false information.
Ulrich collected seven written explanations from meeting participants. They said participants in the meeting did not discuss the expulsion of German citizens or how people could be deported based on racist criteria. These data, according to Ulrich, should be published in a Correctiv article. Otherwise, the investigative journalism center could face legal proceedings.
