Ruby Franke, a digital content creator, was sentenced Tuesday to four prison terms ranging from one to 15 years for aggravated child abuse, according to NBC News.
A woman who rose to fame on YouTube for her parenting advice has pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated child abuse. This case was widely reported in the media as it related to the malnutrition and injuries seen in the Franke children.
“I would do anything in this world for you. I took away everything that was soft and safe and good from you,” Ruby Franke said in an emotional apology to her children, audio of which was available on the Utah court’s website.
“For the past four years, I have decided to follow the advice and guidance that led me into a dark illusion. My distorted version of reality went unnoticed because it isolated me from everyone who challenged me,” the YouTuber said.
The American woman was arrested in late August on suspicion of aggravated child abuse after her emaciated son escaped through a window and asked for help.
The arrest took place at the home of Jody Hildebrandt, owner of a consulting company that worked with Ruby Frank. Jody Hildebrant, also arrested, is charged with six counts of aggravated child abuse.
Franke’s 12-year-old son escaped through the window of Hildebrandt’s home in Ivins and ran to a neighbor’s house to ask for food and water.
A neighbor saw tape on the boy’s ankles and wrists and called police. The young man was taken to the hospital, where he was admitted with deep lacerations and exhaustion.
Franke’s 10-year-old daughter was later found at Hildebrandt’s home and also required hospitalization for signs of malnutrition.
