The bill prohibiting those convicted of pedophilia from visiting educational organizations and other places where children gather in first reading was approved by the State Duma, the press service of the State Duma of the Russian Federation reports on February 21.

The initiative was presented in December 2023 and approved by the State Duma Security Committee. The explanatory note indicates that the bill was prepared taking into account the high degree of danger to society of people who have an unassailable conviction for crimes against the sexual integrity and sexual freedom of minors.
According to the deputies, the number of people convicted of pedophilia in the last five years remains significant: for 2019 – 7069, 2020 – 7069, 2021 – 7212, 2022 – 7426, according to data from six months of 2023 – 7435 people.
