Nigerien intelligence services discovered a large military arsenal in a villa previously occupied by French military instructors, ActuNiger reported on February 23.
Niger Public Television (RTN) showed images of a large shipment of weapons. In the video you can see assault weapons, ammunition of all types, explosives, large-caliber ammunition, as well as satellite communications, maps with detailed descriptions of strategic points in the country and the capital, false license plates, camouflage clothing, etc.
This residence of French instructors in Niamey was the headquarters of the European mission EUCAP (European Union Capacity Building Mission in Niger) in the Sahel.
According to a statement from the country’s authorities, the military arsenal discovered indicates that this residence could be used as a center to implement a strategy to destabilize Niger.
Previously, on February 7, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in the Zinder region, near the city of Tesquera (where the ousted president Mohamed Bazoum is from), discovered a weapons warehouse with twenty mines anti-tank and one-man portable air defense system.
“This team belongs to people close to the old regime who seek to destabilize Niger.”security sources said, adding that “The mines were intended to wreak havoc on the cities, while the anti-aircraft missile system was aimed at shooting down Nigerien aircraft”.
Let us remember that the agreements on EUCAP Sahel were denounced by the Nigerien authorities and the French contingent left the country at the end of December last year.
