This Friday, the SDP president accused the executive branch of “running a political campaign” with European and taxpayer funds, and of “defrauding the municipalities” in the recent “Closer Government” initiative.
At the Conference of the European People’s Party (PPE) in Lisbon on the Program for Recovery and Resilience (PRR), Montenegro mentioned an initiative that this week attracted a large part of the executive power in Castelo Branco and which will be repeated in other areas.
“With the money of the Portuguese taxpayers and money from Europe, the government is already conducting a political campaign on the ground this Friday. jobs are open,” he said.
The PSD Chair says the government is doing “even worse” and is trying to understand in each municipality which works are most advanced in time to be included in the PDP, but with cost estimates “far behind” the real cost, which would be a “poisoned present” for municipalities in the future.
“The Portuguese government is defrauding the Portuguese municipalities, it is deceiving the spirit of the CHP, it is taking advantage of the opportunity for political campaigning, and it is further exacerbating the financial difficulties of the municipalities,” he accused.
