US President Joe Biden introduced new export restrictions and took steps to reduce Russia’s energy revenues. Almost 100 entities are subject to sanctions.
The measures, which have implications for Russia’s financial sector, defense industrial base and trade networks, are aimed at holding the country responsible for the war in Ukraine and the death of opponent Alexei Navalny. “They will ensure that Putin [presidente russo] will pay an even higher price for aggression abroad and domestic repression,” Joe Biden said.
Alexei Navalny died on Friday at the age of 47 in the Russian prison where he was being held. The causes of death are being investigated.
