Mozambican police arrested four people on suspicion of murdering and cutting out the organs of an eight-year-old child on Wednesday morning in the Gorongosa region of Sofala, in central Mozambique, the corporation said this Friday.
The incident occurred around 10 am when the child was returning from school. The suspects, aged between 18 and 27, took the minor to an agricultural field where they committed the crime, Dersio Chakate, spokesman for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Sofala, said during a press conference.
The minor’s mother realized her son’s delay and reported this to the authorities, thus starting a search. The child’s body was found in a neighbor’s farm field with no organs or other limbs.
“We are talking about aggravated murder in a contest with the retention of a body. The defendants confessed, claiming that they committed the crime because they intended to sell [os órgãos] a person whose identity has not yet been established,” Dersio Chakate said.
The PRM reported that investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators of the crime.
